welcome to goodstone goodwine

Greetings travelers of the blogosphere. The creation of this blog was prompted by my friends and colleagues here at Goodstone Inn & Estate in Middleburg, VA. As the sommelier for our restaurant, I have the great fortune to pair wines with Chef Tarver King's cuisine. This site will serve as a place to post some of those pairings as well as offer observations and experiences as they relate to food, fermented beverages and their enjoyment.

The beverage program at Goodstone is comprised of wines offered to enhance our guest's dining experiences as well as a series of wine-based programs providing attendees with an educational experience couched within the scope of a memorable meal. The wine list at Goodstone offers approximately 375 selections from producers who mirror Goodstone's farm focus. The cuisine prepared at Goodstone is thanks to the products cultivated by people we know. While I do not know each winemaker behind every wine, I search for wines that are made by people who typically own their land and revel in capturing its essence in the form of wine. Often these producers are growers and winemakers. They do not make volumes of wine to satisfy a basic banal demand for something merely quaffible. The producers I represent tend more toward small, sustainable production that reflects their unique relationship to the land, a given vintage and the varietal or varietals they employ. These are wines of character and I thoroughly enjoy introducing them to our guests.

My aim in posting here will be to share with you the reader some insights into the approach taken to selecting and presenting beverages at Goodstone. I sincerely hope that this forum will not be one-sided. I invite any and all thoughts from you. Cheers!
